We wanted the full Alaska experience and were willing to pay for Princess's excellent reputation for this result. Accommodations at "top notch" hotels. Embarkation was a disaster! We were rushed to get to the port from our hotel, which was 10 minutes away. Once we arrived we were quickly going through customs since my husband and I are TSA Global approved. We were then gathered in a HUGE room with LOW quality folding chairs, lined up so close together that we were "shoulder to shoulder", and "thigh to thigh", with the person next to us. Some of the chairs weren't even straight! It was terrible and totally uncomfortable. Hundreds of people!!!! We all had to wait from 10:20 am (approx.) until the ship did a "safety check". There was no announcement on a "PA System", with a speaker/microphone. There was 1 man, walking down each row making this statement, FOR HOURS!!! Shouting. We were there until 12:30 pm (approx.). SO unprofessional! Obviously the crew was cleaning the ship. No one admitted that fact. We have been on 15 cruises and NEVER....EVER....had been treated and gathered like "cattle" like this! When we finally got on board, our room was ready and our luggage followed shortly thereafter. The food was superb, the service was great. The shows were acceptable, we've seen better. The technology from the cabin was not updated as other cruise lines. In Juneau, while it was raining, windy & cold, we had to walk up an angles metal ramp, hoping not to slip, and hold onto a metal WET railing!!! No canopy! No consideration. We booked their Denali train to their Denali Lodge. The ride was 10 hours! We did not see any animals. The Lodge was NOT top notch, 4 star! The curtains were stained, there was no A/C or even a fan in the room!!!! The 2 restaurants were OVER booked and disorganized with empty tables & people waiting an hour! UNACCEPTABLE! The next day we left for our tour, then onward to Fairbanks Hotel. This Hotel was much better, however, NOT 4 star. Less than what we expected for the prices this trip cost. The fire alarms went off at approx. 9 pm. No announcement. So we got dressed to find the stairs and join everyone to evacuate. No announcement EVER. No explanation EVER. "Check out" on the last day was 11 am. However, most flights for everyone, were in the evening. Ours was 8:00 pm. So, the entire hotel was hanging around the lobby ALL DAY. They had a SMALL "Hospitality" room, which could accommodate 25 people, maybe. To use some time, we decided to take a shuttle for $5 per person, to downtown Fairbanks. We were exhausted. When we finally got to the airport, we were told the "Fairbanks Airport does not have TSA Pre-check"!!! This was the smallest airport we have ever been to in our lives. So now we have to open our carry-ons, take belts off, etc. Thank goodness we were leaving and going home. Never again on Princess....NEVER.

Disappointed

  • Denali National Park and Preserve
Denali Train to Denali Lodge and National Park. Too long on the train, to see mountains and trees......NO wildlife. Total disappointment!

  • City Tour
We were not aware we would be going to the top of Vancouver sightseeing venue downtown. Since we have hours on our own, we already paid the entrance fee, for no reason, since we later went with the "city tour". Wasted entrance fee!!! Not happy! Also the driver seemed inexperienced. We had a lady in a wheel chair & he did not know how to get her down into the lobby entrance area. I had to find out for him. Westin Hotel only had 1 restaurant. No choice! Not worth the fee. Only 1 person at the front desk upon our arrival!!! "other person on break"!!!!! Starbucks had 6 flies, flying around in it. Awful!
