Traveled with children

My husband and I decided to do a family cruise this summer. I have one child in college and the other in high school. My daughter in college just turned 21. My son is sixteen. I was looking for an affordable vacation and found one leaving Boston. Leaving Boston was so nice. I never knew there were all these islands. I read some reviews regarding the Norwegian Spirit. SOme good some bad. I was disappointed in that when the price went down Norwegian was not flexible. I had an inside room for four. I found out that I could get two Ocean View rooms for $500.00 more. I tried to do this but Norwegian would not give me an upgrade. They said they would have to cancel my room and could only refund me 50%. This didn't seem right to me. I tried and tried to straighten this out to no avail. I just kept the same reservation and it was crowded in the room but was fine. We enjoyed as we called it, "The Bat Cave" since it was so dark. The Spirit was quite the Party boat and we enjoyed it immensely. We did notice that there was alot of nickle and diming. A round of drinks for the three of us was always $30.00. They kept giving us the souvenir glasses. We finally wised up at the end of the cruise saying we did not want the souvenir glasses which was then $7.50 a drink. Now I have a whole bag of Norwegian Spirit glasses. I wish that the crew members would enforce the rules a little bit. There were children in the adult hot tubs when there were signs there saying no children. The food was okay. I found the service at Windows lacking. The staff seemed to be very busy and had no time to interact with us. Some nights we were not even asked if we wanted a drink. I think freestyle dining is okay, but I prefer having reservations. It seems like everybody wants to dine at the same time and there were long lines for dinner. What is the sense of that? It is not dining anytime you want when you have to wait 45 plus minutes to get a table. All in all we have a great time with our kids. We will not forget the fabulous time we had and would definately do this cruise again.
