  3. Regal Princess
We choose the Regal Princess because we already would be in Copenhagen near the July 5 departure and they offered the greatest value for the adventure of other ships we compared. The 6 ports other than Copenhagen beat out others, and the ship was fairly new (2014). We enjoyed the cruise, the cabin mini-suite cabin was very nice, and the service was very good. We enjoyed the interaction with the restaurant servers particularly Daniel Monroy from Mexico. The entertainment was ok though we didn’t go to the theater more than once. It was nice to be able to see the shows on our TV. The food surprised us by being very good at every meal and it was hard not to gain weight. The only negative thing we noticed was that Princess tried to over manage the process of going through Russian immigration on the 1st day at St. Petersburg. Princess told those on independent tours in St Pete to muster in an area on the ship and leave as a large group. This added to the large group of Princess tours leaving as a group hitting Russian Immigration caused a wait for many of 1-2.5 hours getting past customs. Some people missed tours. We just left the ship by ourselves and not as a group and had 4 people ahead of us in immigration as our tour company, TJ Travel, had provided visa documents that indicated to immigration that we were on a tour and did not have visas. Russian immigration let us right through. Don't know if it was because we used the Russian company, TJ Travel, or what, but they just let us through. The next day Princess did not as people to wait as a group and go through. We than comfortably waited on the TJ van for others to clear customs but we were not anxious and comfortable and not in long lines (plus we could go back into the terminal and use the WC or shop while we waited.

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony
Cabin MA
The cabin was good sized and well organized with 2 large TVs. The door to the balcony took a little bit to learn well and I heard others complain about it. The bathroom was large for one on ship, and the bed was comfortable. There was plenty of hanging space with lots of hangers.

  • Berlin
Train trip sponsored by Princess insured that we would return to the ship on time. This was well organized and guides were efficient. Snacks were served each way. There was limited time in Berlin, and I privately book an excursion to the Reichstag and did not judge my time well for the Hop on/off so I missed some of the stops.

This was a great tour that had substantially less people than thos offered by the ship. The Guide, Leea, was very good.

We just recently returned from a July Baltic cruise abroad the Regal Princess. It was a great trip. TJ Travel provided us with 3 excellent tours (St. Petersburg, Tallinn, & Helsinki) on our July, 2017 Baltic cruise. They are a Russia company that really know their way around St Petersburg. We were on a 2-day tour of St. Petersburg that were full days and included the sites we wanted to see. Their tours are in smaller groups via a 16-passagener Mercedes Van while I noticed tours sold by the ship used large busses. Small tours resulted in groups that are easier to get through the crowds. When I reviewed the sites visited, TJ Travel provided more places for less cost than those sold by the cruise line. Our St. Petersburg tour was very well managed and often TJ personnel were at front of lines to swap with our group or swap with other TJ tour groups that are held up or diverted. Our flexible guide, Elena, had the patience of Job and was excellent with crowd management and provided great information on her narratives and from questions asked her. Our excellent driver, Alexei, could part busy traffic like Moses at the Red Sea. TJ Travel delivered what they promised, and even the shopping places we visited had prices comparable to those on the dock and were less expensive than on the ship. We didn’t have to convert money into Rubles because the shops took Euros, Dollars, and credit cards with the exchange rates in line with what I saw on my currency converter as I checked the rates charged with current exchange rates. TJ Travel e-mailed documentation to present to Russian Immigration in lieu of a visa, and we did not follow the advice of the ship and muster into groups to exit the ship. We just left the ship early with the TJ documentation and only had 4 people before us in line at immigration and went right through Russian immigration without any problem as directed by TJ Travel. Those that mustered in shipboard locations to leave the ship the 1st day in St. Petersburg had long lines (up to 2 hours) and were angry at that process. The second day the ship did not suggest leaving in groups. Our guides in Tallinn (Linna) & Helsinki (Leea) were from those cities and not only provided good information but also personal experiences. I’ll have to admit, at first, I was a little leery about using TJ Travel because they were not an official ship tour group, but after reading the favorable reviews from a variety of sources, I decided to book three tours with them on our Baltic cruise. We were really glad we did because we couldn’t have had a better tour experience. Oh, and did I mention that the cost was much less that tours offered by our ship?

The tour was well organized with the exception of the meeting point was to be the large balloon which is no longer there. The guide, Leea, was excellent and provided a great prespective of living in Tallinn through the various occupations.
