As a first-time solo traveler, I had heard that a Viking river cruise might be the best way to reclaim the pleasures of travel. My expectations were exceeded! I love France, so I decided on the Lyon-Avignon cruise with a three-day pre-cruise extension in Paris. Most of my Paris time was on my own (my 4th visit), and it was a perfect way to get over jet lag before boarding the Buri.

The ship was impeccably clean and beautiful, my stateroom was comfortable, the staff was beyond awesome, and the food divine! I tried frog and escargot for the first time!

The best part for me, as an older-ish woman traveling alone and not sure what to expect from the social scene, was meeting some wonderful, interesting people. I have even stayed in touch with some of them.

Veranda Stateroom

Clean, small but very manageable, amenities very nice. Had a balcony but never used it! Too many beautiful spaces on the ship to relax, either alone or with other guests.
