My wife and I chose the Konigsdam because it was Holland America's newest ship and our previous cruises (three) with Holland America had been our favorite as compared to the other five cruise lines we have experienced. Our last cruise with Holland was in 2012 and there have been real changes since then and not for the better. The ship, although nice, did not have the elegance of the other Holland American ships and was very modern in decor. I should comment that my wife and I are retired.
The cabin was very nice in appearance and the shower was the best we have experienced on any cruise line. That being said, the one thing you expect from any cabin is a good bed but that clearly was not what we got. The bed was so hard, the second day I asked the cabin attendant to get and us a foam pad for the bed. While this helped we never got a good night's sleep for the whole cruise. They call their new mattresses "Mariners Dream" but I have another name for them which is not complimentary. Holland America used to be known for their wonderful beds which I had experienced on our previous three cruises with them. Due to the bed situation I can only give a poor rating for the cabin, but in every other way it was very good,
The entertainment in the theater was very good as usual in particular the third night show was spectacular with visual images surrounding us as there is almost a circular screen within which you are seated.
