Britannia in Monaco

We have just returned from an excellent cruise on Britannia, We have previously sailed on P&O (Aurora, Azura, Oceana), Cunard (QE2, QV, QE and QM2) and Princess (Emerald) and felt that Britannia was an extremely refined and elegant ship. It thoroughly impressed us, providing us with everything we wanted from a high end cruise ship.

The cruise included some excellent guest acts with West End pedigree, alongside the brilliant Britannia show cast, orchestras and bands. I particularly enjoyed the use of the CGI on the very impressive LED screens in the Headliners theatre (a feature now added to QM2). The soloist Andy Foster was multi-talented, with some superb, guitar, sax and vocals and we loved his sets in Brodie's. We personally felt the atrium lacked the wow factor of say Cunard's Queen Elizabeth/Victoria or Royal Princess and we would suggest that the Blue Bar could be opened up so it spills out into the atrium. In a rather bizarre design move the Piano is screened off from the main seating area in the bar, meaning you just get the muffled tones of the artist when sitting in the bar itself. On other P&O ships the Piano proves a central component of these premium bars. That is not to say that we didn't enjoy the atrium, we loved Java by the day and the Glass House of an evening on the upper tier. The Glass House is still my favourite wine bar at sea by far, with a great food menu. I would also thoroughly recommend the Limelight Lounge. Claire Sweeney was the act we booked to see and she really owned the room on the night we visited. Her vocals were so good and her interaction with the audience was brilliant. She was extremely generous with her time after she finished performing.

We were extremly fortunate to be in Monaco for the International fireworks festival. It was beautiful watching the stunning fireworks display from our balcony. The Britannia Beats LED Party on deck afterwards capped off a great evening.
