We just returned from our first cruise on the Amacerto, Romantic Danube tour. We added the three night pre-sail tour in Prague to begin the journey. It was great to have a few days to adjust to the new time schedule and to see this beautiful city! We added the transfers from the airport to the hotel which was easy and seamless. The hotel we stayed in, The Cosmopolitan, was lovely with all the comforts of home and enjoyed a delicious and plentiful breakfast buffet each morning. We enjoyed many of the tours available with the AMA group in Prague, and had plenty of time to go exploring on our own. The add on evening of the Folk Dinner with entertainers was really fun! We were afraid of it being too cheesy, but it tuned out to be a great evening! The bus trip to the ship from Prague was a bit long, but broken up with a few stops. Once we arrived at the ship, the embarkation was easy and we were in our cabins with luggage in no time. They hosted a nice Octoberfest type event on the shore outside the ship which was fun with delicious local beer and music! All of the ports had something to offer everyone. Our personal favorites were Passau and Bratislava. There were tour groups set up for all levels of abilities, with a faster pace, regular pace, and slower pace group. This area was seeing an unusual amount of high temperatures daily which took a bit of a toll on our energy levels, but the beautiful towns and interesting tours kept us going. The food on the ship was good. This was our first cruise, so we have nothing to compare it to, but we couldn't imagine given the river cruise situation, having any better food. They changed the meal offerings daily and often presented cuisine that went along with the port of the ship at the time. Their desserts were wonderful...and we ate enough homemade ice cream to last a year! I would have enjoyed something more than pastries for the "late risers" breakfast that we seemed to generally make it to. Also, as I have read in other reviews, be aware that additional cocktails are an added charge. Not an issue, just something to keep in mind. We did enjoy the Chefs Table the final night of the cruise which was fantastic! I could write on and on about the wonderful service, the precise timing and preparedness for all activities, and the comfortable and clean surroundings. Our cruise manager Raul was fantastic both in personality and in running a wonderful tour. This was a trip we will always remember! We would definitely look to book with AMA in the future!

Beautiful and memorable cruise vacation!

Cabin Review

Stateroom with French balcony and outside balcony
Cabin AA 216
As first time cruisers, we were a little anxious about the size of the cabin. As we found however, the cabins are thoughtfully laid out with plenty of space for unpacking. There is a nice roll out bin under one half of the bed for items you may only need once or not at all. We stashed extra blankets from the shelving cabinet/closets, etc... in that. Our luggage fit nicely under the opposite side of the bed, so it was completely tucked out of the way.

The bathroom layout was good as well, with plenty of space under the sink for toiletry and hairdryer storage. The shower was great with both a rain head above, and wand on the wall.

The balcony was large enough for us to sit on and enjoy the view. The best use was for the evening light tour in Budapest. It was storming and lightning that night, but sitting on the balcony provided us wonderful views and shelter from the rain. Generally we sat up on the top deck to better see both sides of the ship while cruising.

Overall, I would highly recommend this room for space and comfort!

  • Bratislava
Loved this smaller port! We enjoyed the quick walking tour, and then headed out to explore on our own. We took the night off from the ships dining room, and enjoyed a beautiful meal under the trees in the city center, taking in the sights and sounds of the town.

Good overall tour. There is so much to see, its hard to get a true feel in just one day. It was our final day, so we were tired and enjoyed the sun and the deck with city views in the afternoon.

  • Durnstein (Krems)
We toured the tiny of of Durnstein, sampled some wonderful apricot liqueurs, strolled the scenic little town along the Dabube, and even had the chance to put our feet in the river to cool off. We then went and toured the large and beautiful Melk Abbey! Highly recommend seeing this and strolling the gardens.

  • Walking Tour
We had a wonderful guide tour us through this old, small city. The city streets were narrow, and hilly, allowing for beautiful views. I enjoyed walking through the artisans galleries and small shops in the area. We taxied to the top of a huge hill where a castle is perched across the river, enjoyed the magnificent views, the local beers, and walked back to the ship. A perfect port for us!

  • City Tour
The bus toured us around the city to see sights out the window before dropping us in the city center for a walking tour. It was good, although we felt we could have seen a bit more. We enjoyed our free time exploring on our own, enjoying an art museum and delicious foods of the city.
