Having sailed with Royal Caribbean before a few years ago we decided to book a trip and take our seven year old with us round the Med. We chose this particular ship due to the sailing dates and the itinerary and the fact that it left Southampton meant we didn't have to fly which was a bonus. The whole experience of getting on the ship was very smooth, our cabin was lovely and no grumbles about the facilities. Our stateroom attendant was fantastic and our room was always spotless. Our dining staff were superb, couldn't fault them and they were always chatty and informed us of everything going on. We were particularly looking forward to the cruising days so we could relax on the ship which ended up not being that relaxing when you are sailing through the Bay of Biscay but that isn't down to Royal Caribbean, just something to be aware of if you haven't cruised before. The shore excursions we booked were also brilliant, we had great guides and really enjoyed our trips. Standards seem to have dropped from last time we cruised particularly some of our fellow passengers who took great pleasure at making snide comments in the lift because we had dressed up for formal night. I would absolutely avoid the Windjammer and Two Poets pub who obviously catered for a very different clientele, not the kind you expect to mix with when you've paid 6K for your holiday. Also there seemed to be a large gang of teenagers hanging around in entrance area of our deck on a nightly basis, despite being lots of public areas they could go to. I can see this on the street corner at home anytime, not the kind of thing I expect on a cruise. Also on our previous cruise we used to get a little chocolate left on our pillow every night, none of that this time. Then the drinks packages - $65 per person per day if you want to upgrade from the awful house wine/bottled beer or water. Absolutely extortionate. If you order separately it's $9 a shot in the bar!!! Internet access also ridiculously overpriced. Constantly being sold to by the staff 24/7 gets a bit wearing after a bit. Overpriced snaps being peddled as 'professional photography'. The on board shops had a few good items but they were mostly selling overpriced tat and tacky souvenirs. Overall we had a nice time but I doubt I would cruise with RC again and certainly not in school holidays.

Cabin Review

Cabin 9518
Cabin was a nice size, comfy bed and a sofa bed for our son. Nicely decorated and in reasonable condition. Wardrobe doors needed replacing but other than that very nice.
