We opted to drive to New Jersey and park at the terminal for the cruise. The arrival was somewhat chaotic as you are required to drop bags and then park your vehicle. This process wasn't clear through any signage as you approached the port, so it was rather confusing. This was compounded by the fact there were passengers from the previous cruise leaving the port as we arrived. We were to board the ship at 1130AM and arrived at 1100AM. The parking garage was so convenient and it was secure. It was $20 per night and you pay after your cruise. Inside the terminal was exceptionally busy. We were a bit confused again on where to go; however, attendants were everywhere and helped guide us with little issue. We boarded the ship at 1130AM and had until 130PM to have lunch and explore the ship before our cabin was ready. The lunch, and every subsequent meal on the Anthem of the Seas was superb. The attendants are extremely friendly and you can't find one that doesn't have a smile on their face. After lunch, we walked the ship and you could tell the stress was leaving all the passengers. The Anthem has an area for everyone and for anything you might want to do. We loved it. When we were able to go to our cabin, our luggage was waiting by our door. Our cabin steward did mix up the welcome information for our cabin and one next door. It took a trip to guest services and a visit with a supervisor at our room to remedy the situation, but all the staff were very helpful and apologetic for the mix ups. Once we were given our own welcome information, it had our WiFi info, drink package cups, excursion tickets, and personalized welcome letters. If that info had been in our actual room, that would have been a first-class welcome. This cruise was the first for our 13 yr old and I picked the Anthem of the Seas for its teen program. If you have children around this age, they will love it. Our child had a variety of events to do and the program included blocked off time on the Wave Rider, bumper cars, and other amenities. They even had a formal farewell dinner and a "prom" for them on the last night. Needless to say, he had a blast in a supervised environment and Mom and Dad loved the time alone to decompress and relax. For us parents, we saw every show and each one was a top-notch production. Our favorite was The Gift. Highly recommend it. We spent evenings in the Solarium (16+ or older only) lounging in chairs and watching the sun set. We had excellent dinners and treated ourselves to CHOPS Steakhouse one night. It was a 5-start meal and experience. All the wait staff were professionals and made us feel as though we were the only guests. We scheduled our excursions through Royal Caribbean and were very pleased. We went snorkeling and had a day at the beach. Our "power" snorkeling trip was cancelled due to weather and the Shore Excursion staff left messages in our cabin the night before and was very helpful in finding us another excursion to fill the time. Bermuda was a beautiful place to visit and the beaches were amazing. The port facilities were spotless and the security staff checking us back on the boat were proficient and friendly. Our teen loved the cruise life and can't wait for us to go again. We will definitely choose Royal Caribbean. I will leave you with one comment on why I rated our cabin low. It is not because of the cabin itself. We had a balcony cabin and it was amazing. We had an odor problem (urine) in our bathroom. We talked with a housekeeping supervisor about the issue, but even after multiple cleanings, it still smelled. Unfortunately, the toilet or the grout in the tile is past the point where a surface clean will do. The bathroom needed a deep cleaning with bleach and I guess there simply wasn't time for that. We sprayed Axe body spray in there each day to hide the smell. I guess everything can't be perfect, but I do think my cabin's bathroom issues are not indicative of the state of all the cabin bathrooms.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E1

Excellent spacious balcony where we watched the sun set, the Statue of Liberty pass by, and enjoyed our morning coffee. The beds were comfortable. The couch bed my teen slept on wasn't as comfortable, but it was a couch bed. Linens were always fresh. The beds were made twice a day and we had neat "towel animals" each night of the cruise. You can read my overall review to see the details of our stateroom's bathroom, but it had a persistent urine smell we couldn't rid ourselves of, even after engaging with housekeeping supervisory personnel. The TV control had a rubber bad around the battery cover which was surprising as no other aspect of the cabin was anything other than top-notch. All lights worked. The TV channel selection was good. The phone system was easy to use and intuitive. The room had a small fridge which was a great benefit. The safe was easy to use and fit all my wife's valuables with ease. The temperature control was adjustable and kept the humidity out. Remember to close the balcony door though because the HVAC shuts off when you open the balcony door.
