Missus Charlie and I just returned from the Northern Isles cruise. We upgraded during the last pre-cruise week from guaranteed Veranda to Neptune class stateroom 7052.
The crew was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Particular plaudits to the Culinary Center, Pinnacle Grill, and Ocean and Explorer staffs.
The entertainment was as expected. The on-board troupe occasionally appears to substitute volume and kinetic energy for musical and terpsichorean ability - but, they make a great effort to entertain and deserved the applause. Activities tended toward sedentary which is not surprising given the ship's demographic. (Not a significant complaint, by the way. Neither Missus nor I are into rock climbing.
The cabin was fine. A caution that the shower stall will be a challenge to any generously proportioned cruiser. The bathroom color/decor was dated. Ample closet space. (Next time we go Neptune class, we'll reduce our packing of clothing since laundry/drycleaning is complimentary and good.) Veranda is ample. But, we didn't use it much that close to the Arctic Circle.
Arrived one day before cruise and departed the day following. Chose to do Viator "Hop On-Hop Off" bus and canal travel. Stayed at Crown Royal Towers - excellent and had dinner at Restaurant Krebsegaarden - fantastic (but pricey ca. $300 for two people) tasting menu. Need to reserve well ahead.
