We wanted to see Normandy beaches, Monet's home and gardens plus medieval cities, castles and European river homes. Shore excursions were fantastic with interesting history info, war places, explanation of how medieval homes were built, viewing of castles on hllls, how they were built, etc. We were NOT taken to jewelry or other shops to buy anything but were given free time to do so if desired which was a definite plus from other ocean ship excursions. This was our first river cruise due to the higher price than ocean cruises so we were expecting great service, food and excursions. Viking delivered every day of the 8 day cruise on all 3 with excellent variety of food, ample portions, seconds if desired at dinner, 2 entrees or desserts available if wanted to try different foods and couldn't make a decision on which to choose!

Viking's Staff were tremendously friendly, courteous, helpful and professional but also personable.

They even danced the "Achy, Breaky Heart" song with cowboy hats so this was hilarious since we are from Dallas, TX, and everyone enjoyed the comraderie of the crew. We enjoyed the river cruise so much we are taking another one in October, the Grand European for 15 days and can't wait to see more sights and the Viking crew as we know they'll go out of their way to make the cruise the most memorable one possible.

Cabin Review

Cabin was larger than ocean cruise cabins with light wood paneling that gives an elegant look. Rooms all have a view of the river. The TV was larger than on ocean cruises with free movies.
