Cutting Corners: Carnival Sunshine Cruise Review by D.O.T.

Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)
On this cruise we left out of New York on the Carnival Sunshine For Puerto Rico,ST Thomas and Grand Turk, our cabin was 6146
We purchased the Faster to the Fun option which was worth the money for embarkation and debarkation but on the ship for the Faster to the Fun was useless for Excursions. They would change the locations to meet, the first excursion we were given a paper telling us the location had changed, the second excursion in ST Thomas we went to were we were supposed to meet an were told the location had changed
Our cabin was a typical Carnival balcony, but there was no refirgerator in the cabin, this sucked. You had no way to keep things cold ,this is the only ship that I have been on were there was no Frig and the bathroom was a little smaller than other Carnival balcony cabins we have stayed in. The beds in the cabin are very firm we asked for toppers to add some More softness. The last two carnival ships we were on had the same problem.
The Entertainment on board was great ,the shows were good and the Cruise Director Emma was the Best, she kept things going and made you want to join in the fun.
We had My Time Dining and this worked out great, we could not always get the same Waiter and staff each night but when we could we asked for Floren, he was in the Sunset Dining room and he was very good and he remembered our names even though we did not have him each night and we loved talking to him.
The Food on the other hand was dissapointing, this is were it seems that Carnival is cutting corners they seem to focus on the specialty dining room food Which you have to pay extra for up to 30$ a person instead of enhancing the food in the main dining rooms and the buffet on the Lido deck, they need to change up there menu the last cruise we were on had the same things on the menu
The ship was nice, alittle to crowded for me,it seems that when Carnival did the refurbis of the ship in 2013 they added more areas for guests (bars, night clubs and such) but made them smaller and added more cabins for more people.capacity went from 2400-2500 to over 3000 and size of the ship did not change.
Don't get me wrong, this review might seem negative in some parts but my family and I love to cruise it just seems that Carnival is loosing sight of what return guests are looking for and need to change there game plan Less
Cabin review: 8A6146 Balcony
Cabin was a typical size balcony room for carnival, just enough room for four people. But there was no refrigerator in the room and the bathroom was a little smaller than an inside cabin. I know this because my brother and his family had an inside cabin The door handle to the balcony was jammed , so I fixed it and the glass on the door and the window were very dirty also the cover for the vent in the bathroom was hanging down.Read All Balcony (8A) Reviews >>
