As always, service from staff & crew on Holland America defines the excellence of the trip. Crew was always friendly and ready with a greeting, even when it was clear that they were busy, overworked, and dealing with a lot of stressful situations.
What I can't fault HAL for is my fellow passengers, but the biggest negative of this trip was the majority of other people sailing on this itinerary. They were pushy, loud, rude, impatient...everything you don't want when you're stuck on a ship with them for 12 days.
There were multiple negative or stressful "situations" that occurred on this sailing, all of which the staff and crew handled to the best of their ability:
Great "home base". Really enjoyed the view from our verandah. The updated tv with movies and television shows/news was a very welcome change; we liked to watch movies or tv shows while we were getting ready for the evenings, or in the afternoons if we just needed some quiet relaxing time. Room was kept very clean and orderly by room stewards.
Nice small seaside town. Archaeological site at Butrint was amazing.
Cephalonia is a hidden gem! Argostoli is a lovely port town, great shopping available. We visited a winery on the island as well to taste lots of their wines and all were delicious.
Visited ruins at Mycenae and the Beehive Tomb; these were fantastic ruins. Stopped at Palamidi Castle and took the stairs (857!) down from the castle to the town. Would not recommend the steps if you are not in good health as they are very steep. It is an easy 5 minute walk from the bottom of the castle hill to the port. Nafplion is a beautiful little city worth exploring.
