The cruise had a good itinerary, embarkation arrangements were good and all started well. Destination ports were all in docklands and needed transport to reach town centers as opposed to cruise terminals. It soon became apparent that this was an old ship (formerly P&O) and had been rushed into service, renovations and repairs were going on around the passenger. On one occasion our stateroom carpet was soaking wet. When we complained at reception they put in train a change of cabin and repairs. They were unaware that another department was cleaning carpets on that deck but not drying them adequately.Meals were mediocre, waiters had no knowledge of the wines or how to serve them the principle restruant was well appointed but the self service was always uncomfortably hot and overcrowded. There were announcements on the Tanoy by a voice that said it was the captain but he never condescended to meet the passengers. Two ports of call Isle of Sky and Mull were cancelled when the captain anticipated the sea conditions would be too dangerous, but since he chose to divert to a day at sea and Invergordon we will never know if the highlights of the cruise we were wisely avoided or not. Entertainment was a mixed bag ranging from a poor taste comedian when guests walked out to some first class productions. It was left to guests to arrange a well supported bridge school. My wife developed cellulitis in her leg and treatment in the medical center was excellent.
