River cruises allow you to see the countryside from a floating hotel with great food, good wine, great entertainment and nice people. The Bordeaux cruise is not as scenic as the Rhine or the Danube, but visits historic towns and great vineyards. The convenience of walking off your ship into a historic walled town is wonderful. Local guides were knowledgeable and very pleasant. On board entertainment is low key - no big shows, but an excellent lounge singer/pianist who was versatile enough to go from soft and romantic to belting out Edith Piaf. The public areas were not overcrowded as one finds on many cruise ships. While good local wines were served with dinner, something special could be had at reasonable cost from tan excellent wine list. Food was also wonderful, especially when compared to our last ocean cruise with P&O. The Program Director was a man with experience in circus and cabaret who put a smile on every face. The cost is reasonable and the experience is far better than ocean cruising.
well fitted out, although a bit cramped.
