We took the Volendam from Japan and the immediate reaction to the ship was that it was kept in great shape. It was just a beautiful ship maintained very nicely. Our room which was with a window was in good shape with all things working properly. Our room attendants were excellent. Food in the main dining room was very good. The buffet during lunch was at times disappointing. The pizza was inedible and I even brought a slice to an officer to taste and the next day we had several officers checking out the food during lunch time. Service in the dining room was very good. What shocked me was when we were in the Pinnacle, and asked for another portion, the waiter said that we don't do that anymore. That got me very annoyed since that never happened to us and we have traveled the HAL at least 6 times. In all it was a good cruise around Japan. Service was good but not great. Food was good and in the private restaurants very good. Shows were adequate and enjoyable. We did enjoy ourselves.
