My husband and I went on this cruise because it included the reunion of a band we really wanted to see. This was our first cruise experience and it is not typically the kind of vacation that interests us. Having nothing to compare it to, we felt that MSC made it as pleasant as a cruise can be, but we found that we spent a lot of time standing in lines (for food, the concerts, getting on/off the boat, etc.) and didn't especially enjoy things being so scheduled. That being said, everything was extremely clean and the staff was always friendly and attentive. Our room was immaculate and the service in the dining room was excellent. Despite representing many different countries, everyone we interacted with spoke English very well. Because we were on a specific event cruise, all the entertainment was organised by Premier and was not the usual MSC performers, but the theater was comfortable and the concerts were produced well. The food was good and there was always lots of everything at the buffet, though there were not a lot of vegetarian options and if you have food allergies or sensitivities it might be difficult to navigate. You can also expect to stand in line for the popular stations. We had supper every night in the dining room after the concert. Again, not a lot of options for vegetarians and my husband's meat/fish dishes were generally over-cooked but tasty. We spent a little time in the adults-only pool in the evening, which was nice and quiet, but during the day there was nowhere to sit in the shade. By the main pool there were never any lounge chairs available in the shade and since we were there in July, it was just too hot to sit in the sun. As is standard on most cruises, none of your alcoholic beverages, specialty drinks, or pop are included, but we got along fine with what was available in the buffet. The free soft-serve ice cream at the pool was also very popular and the snacks (pizza, fruit, cookies, etc.) in the buffet between meals were good, especially given our 8 pm dinner time. There seemed to be a lot of activities for children and teens that they appeared to enjoy, though we don't have either so can't comment on them specifically. If you like to go on the kind of vacation where everything is scheduled for you and you are comfortable on boats (I am not so much and was a little queasy at times), then I think you would enjoy an MSC cruise.

Cabin Review

Bella Interior Stateroom
Cabin I1 12221
The cabin was small, but given that it was the least expensive room, that is not a surprise. It was very clean and well designed and the staff was excellent about exchanging towels and answering questions.

  • Half Moon Cay
The beach is beautiful white sand and there are lots of lounge chairs to be had. You can also rent clamshells and cabanas. We brought our own snorkel stuff and saw some fish along the sea wall. You can also rent equipment on the beach along with kayaks and other water things. The ship cannot dock here, so you will have to take a tender to and from it, but this doesn't take long (once you get through the line).

We did not book any excursions here, but did print a self-guided walking tour off the internet before we left and managed to see most of the historical city that way. It was extremely hot, so after a couple of hours of exploring, we were done. Be prepared to say no to the crowd of people offering excursions, taxis, horse-drawn carriage rides, tours, souvenirs, etc. Straw Market is the place to go if you want typical tourist souvenirs.
