Fort Lauderdale:

- I flew in the day before and stayed at the riverside hotel close to downtown (about 7 miles from the port, 5 miles from the airport, and 2 miles from the beach). The city day I used for lunch and exploration. When returning from the cruise, I stayed overnight in Fort Lauderdale again. I did go to the beach and eat down by the water. It's a typical beach city with restaurants and shopping. Both very calm and relaxing and takes the stress of traveling before or after you cruise.

Ocean Suite

Cabin OS

I have only ever had a balcony room before. Carnival called a week before the cruise (they have done this to me before) and offered an upgrade for $450 to the ocean suite - this really is a decent deal. it's 50% off what it would cost at booking and it comes with the 'faster to the fun' included. The room is slightly larger with the real difference being a full size tub/shower (although it is slightly thinner than a normal US tub). It also comes with double sinks as well as a separate changing area with vanity. The room has mirrors behind the headboard as well as lining the front wall, as well as two closet areas (about 1.5 feet wide each). There was more counter space in the room than I could use. Overall the room was great for an upgrade and included an extra 5 or so feet in width in the balcony as well as the room.
