Wanting to celebrate my birthday in a different setting, we chose the Sirena based primarily on the itinerary. We have sailed on Oceania Marina (twice) and the Riviera once so this was not our first experience with Oceania. However, as many other past customers of Oceania discussed not only on this forum, but speaking with many on this particular cruise, Oceania has definitely changed and unfortunately, it does not seem for the better. As an example, we found our stateroom not be as clean as we had hoped. Being made to wait what seemed to be an inordinate amount of time to be allowed to enter our room, you would have believed it to be thoroughly clean. That was not the case. We understand the stateroom attendants have a large job and given the fact that they have so many rooms to clean, surely management is rushing them. As an example, smudges of what seemed to be cosmetics were all over the dressing table. The walls on the balcony were stained by a oozing brown substance and rust was everywhere. The gutter on the base of the balcony was plugged with hair and other matter which clearly meant it had not been cleaned in some time. It did not appear the room's carpeting was very clean or the vacuum cleaner needs to be replaced. All that aside, what seemed to change was the attitude of the senior officers. I made reservations several weeks in advance of this sailing and was advised the only time available was 8:30 (2030 hours). When we arrived for our dinner, we observed four senior officers in full uniforms seated at a choice location near the front door to Tuscana's Restaurant. Obviously, they had been seated before us as they were enjoying bottles of wine. We sat not too far from them and couldn't help but see they enjoyed a good meal. I watched as they summoned the sommelier for the wine menu to order more wine. Not too sure if this is the type of appearance Oceania executives want they senor officers to be exhibiting. The officers may have been off duty. If so, don't be in uniform in clear view of passengers imbibing alcoholic beverages given the recent past and ship accidents. Not too sure we want to return to Oceania in the future. Of course, I doubt management cares about what we observed or our thoughts. Surely, it does to appear so given the attitude we observed.
The only bright spot is that the crew and the junior officers were outstanding. Again, the itinerary was superb.
The size of this ship made it very easy to board, especially at Miami.
