Just off the Summit for the signature America’s Biggest Regatta sailing to view the America’s cup race. This was our sixth Celebrity cruise, and first on the Summit. We last cruised in October 2014 on the Century in the South Pacific. I will start by saying that while we enjoyed our cruise we found many things very disappointing. So disappointing in fact that this was the first time we felt we have no interest in cruising with Celebrity again. This is a strong statement because we have loved Celebrity from our first experience in the Galapagos to our most recent in 2014.

First, our stateroom. We had a sweet sixteen balcony. The balcony was large, and the room was small as expected. This was not an issue because we spend very little time in our room. The problem with the room was that it was in disrepair. The shower floor was covered in rust stains and the mirror was held together in places with duct tape. Seriously, duct tape. We had quite a severe leak from the air conditioner that left a mushy puddle in front of the entry door and main closet. The leak was repaired in a couple of days, but it must be an ongoing problem because the carpet was peeling away from the wall. Otherwise, we were happy with the cleanliness of the room in general and our attendant was fantastic. They have cut back to one attendant doing away with the assistant position. We did not have any issue associated with a lack of service. As mentioned elsewhere on CC, robes must be requested. I agree with previous posters that while it is no trouble to ask, new cruisers may not know to ask.

Next is the Persian Gardens. I always purchase a pass for the entire cruise for the Persian Gardens. I was concerned that Summit wouldn’t be as nice as it is on the interior of the ship, but found the space to be very relaxing. What was wrong with this experience was that there was a huge Turkish Baths steam room that was neither warm nor steamy, and it was always empty. People went in and turned right out just as we did. The hot sauna was a highlight. Perfectly heated and roomy. There was a heated bench in the main area that was relaxing with cooler airflow in the room. The biggest problem was the herbal steam room. It was so tiny you could only fit two people or four if they knew each other because there would be touching, and this is quite unappealing if you don’t know the person sweating on you. Also, every visit we had to ask the staff to replenish the aromatics. Never before was this an issue on other ships. The room was always scented. On the Summit, upon request they would either spray the aromatic from a bottle or pour from a jug. One person even dumped a huge amount of liquid onto the benches instead of putting it in the diffuser or on the floor. Who wants to sit directly in a wet mess of oil? The final problem with this same room was that three days before the cruise ended the seats malfunctioned an no longer got warm. So limited space, no heated seats, and no aromatics. Unacceptable.

Boston

Great time in Boston. Bought shuttle tickets from the ship, and just did a lot of walking and exploring. Great city!
