We have been on many Royal Caribbean cruises...over 20 and have been on a variety of class of ships. This was the worst Royal cruise by far. The boat was full which we expected and have experienced on many other ships. This time, we spent so many hours in lines waiting unnecessarily. From getting on and off boat, to waiting for tenders, to waiting in customer service lines, to waiting to play bingo, to waiting for teen activities, it felt like all we did was wait! Many guests expressed the same frustration. We found the food to be mediocre like never before. Even in the specialty restaurants. we found the food to be just OK. It's almost like the specialty restaurants now have the quality and selection of the old main dining rooms. We found the ports to be very limited as far as things to do. Bar Harbor is a very cute town but didn't seem prepared for this many cruisers...The tenders couldn't handle the amount of passengers in a relatively fair amount of time. Many guests were late for their excursions because of this. They were also late getting back to the ship for the same reason. Halifax was a beautiful port. We did our own thing in Halifax. We took a guided bike tour with a company called I Heart Bikes which was the highlight of our cruise. The ports were mostly frustrating because it took FOREVER to get off the boat. The ship is very nice but felt poorly laid out. Hard to explain why but even the wait for the elevators was like never before. Everywhere felt crowded and I have never felt that way before. Even on the Oasis or Allure. The activities we were so excited about that make this ship unique were disappointing. For example, sky diving was already almost completely booked before we even got on board. We had to take a time that we could not go together as a family and that was not convenient for our schedule but the kids did it. It takes 45 minutes and the individual person gets less than 1 minute in the sky dive. They were told they could not go again for the remainder of the cruise because the ship had too many passengers and not enough time for everyone to try it. Same thing with the North Star that is supposed to go over the ocean...it was also booked almost completely before we got on board so we did it on their schedule but it was less than 5 minutes and went straight up and down. When I asked why we weren't going over the ocean, I was told there were too many people on the boat and there was not enough time to do the full ride. So they only go up and down. The staff seemed more indifferent than ever. Many commented that they were tired and over worked. Many complained about 7 days a week and working 7 months straight. As a customer, we should never hear that from the staff.

Cabin Review

Cabin 10204
Cabin was great. Clean, nice decor, lots of space for the 4 of us. Even had an extra 1/2 bath which was ideal for us. Our cabin steward did a good job keeping it clean and was very friendly.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Lobster Fishing & Seal Watching
lulu lobster boat was a 2 hour excursion that we were made to book through boat. Many friends had recommended doing this but we found it a bit boring. The boat takes you out a bit, you see some seals. on the way back they pull out a lobster trap and tell you all about it, let you touch a lobster and then they return to port. The staff running the boat were very nice and knowledgeable. My kids are 15 and 14 and were pretty bored except for the 5 minutes we spent looking at the seals.

We decided to do our own excursion for this city. I knew the weather would be nice and I didn't want to be on a bus. I found a company near the port called "I Heart Bikes". They offer many different options. We selected a 6 hour guided bike tour. This was an amazing way to see the highlights of the city. The guide was very knowledgeable and kept everything interesting for the kids and us. We went at our own pace and we were able to give feedback on where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. It was truly customized to our interests! I highly recommend this company and we all loved Halifax. This was the highlight of the trip!
