My wife and I are Platinum Latitudes members. Most of our cruises have been with NCL. First time on the Gem, a very clean and well run ship. Boarding and disembark from NYC needs some attention.
We enjoyed 5 nights in the specialty restaurants, Cagneys being our favorite. Maderno has a fabulous salad bar save room for the different cuts of Brazilian cook meats. Say hello to Netta if you eat there, she is a awesome waitress who will see to all your needs. If you eat in Grand Pacific (Main Dining Room) ask for Edward Carr another great waiter. We did not have a disappointing meal the whole trip.
The Great Outdoors is the place to be when leaving NYC deck 12 back of ship. You will have a great view of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the sky line of NYC. While you are there say hello to Sam the bartender who makes a great Mojito.
Make sure to see the shows Blazing Boots and Swing! The Musical, very high energy and Broadway caliber productions.
Make sure to appreciate the staff as they work very hard to make your trip one to remember.
Was disappointed with Halifax, Nova Scotia very commercial port of call. Saint John, Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick was a better stop, quaint port. Bar Harbor, Maine and Portland, Maine were enjoyable. I do not recommend Big Pink Bus All-Day Hop On, Hop Off. Walk off and get a local to show you Canada.
Cabin because it is a Jewel class are smaller in size compared to the super ships, but has all you need.
Independent Cab drive Abdul took us all over St. John and St. Martin. Thoroughly enjoyable experience and very reasonably priced.
Great tour. DEFINITELY take a windbreaker jacket. Cold if you do not have one.
