Cabin: Balcony

This was my first cruise and several years in the making. Overall a four 'star' rating feels very fair to the Ruby, which was a very nice ship with only a couple of issues that would have made this a 5-out-of-5 affair.

My boyfriend and I were the youngest couple without kids on the ship as far as I could tell, aside from a cluster of bros who seemed to constantly occupy one mid-ship jacuzzi (more on the jacuzzi situation later). It was just the two of us, and we were looking for a mostly quiet and relaxing getaway. After much back and forth I booked a balcony cabin and boy am I glad I did. I literally saw whales while wearing my pajamas. Worth it for that alone.

Departure from Seattle was fairly easy – like I said, first cruise, so having no status of any kind our appointed boarding time was around 1pm. That was actually pretty nice – lines weren't too long, we were able to board as soon as we checked in and our room was ready right away.

Balcony

Cabin BB

Nice, very quiet. Slight urine smell on balcony ? but I'd book it again in a heartbeat. Watch out for those whales when you cruise into Juneau.

Port Reviews

Victoria

Put on some walking shoes and head to downtown.

Ketchikan

Go for the lumberjacks.

Glacier Bay

Ridiculously cool.

Seattle

I live here so maybe I'm biased. If you're visiting, you should see the market. Don't do the ducks tour. The view from Kerry park is free and amazing. The underground tour is legitimately pretty cool. If you end up by the space needle and like pizza and craft beer, go to the Masonry in lower queen anne. Don't be afraid to ride city buses, they'll get you everywhere and they're cheap!
