Having been on a large number of cruises with RC, Princess, Fred Olsen and others, I feel qualified to say that I know what to expect, and all the pros and cons of each one. I always preferred RC to any other, but after this latest cruise, I have seen a lot of changes and not all good. The larger ships just have too many people to cater for. The food is good but not like it used to be. They have cut a lot of corners. The windjammer is absolute chaos in the mornings and lunchtime. You would think people haven't eaten for months the way they pile everything onto their plates. We saw one man emptying the whole bacon tray onto his plate! just no control whatsoever. It is quite obscene. Parents letting their children run wild and eating pancakes piled with sugar, syrup, chocolate and ice cream for breakfast. Parents going out for the night and leaving their children ALONE in cabins screaming into the early hours. The food was quite good in dining room and service excellent, but not as good as it once was. No more lobster on the menu! All in all if this was your first cruise, you would be amazed by it, but when your a seasoned cruiser, you notice everything. Not to whinge, but the tipping system is so embarrassing and ruins our last evening every time. We just opt out now on the first day and give our tips to who we want to. We thought we knew all the cons, but still got caught in Marseilles,, We were told there was no way we could get into the port unless we paid 23 euros each for a transfer. Then we found there WAS a free shuttle bus into town and back. Some families were paying hundreds of dollars for this FREE service. That was really bad. So there is a free shuttle service in Marseille from ship to town, so don't be fooled like we were. Overall a great holiday, we did our own excursions which cost nothing compared to the RC organised ones. The entertainment was good, the juggler was fantastic and should have his own tv show, absolutely hilarious, ice show amazing. One thing which is the worst thing to us is the huge shopping mall, its like a Saturday market.
