Naturally, a trip with Hurtigruten is different than those of the large/mega cruise ships that go around the Caribbean and other areas, so review categories should not be confused. There is little "entertainment," for instance, since that is NOT what the cruise is for, and one knows that prior to booking. That said, we had a great experience with Hurtigruten! We found the line and personnel to be fantastic. We enjoyed the many options for excursions, although we did not participate in many of them. We sailed from Bergen to Kirkenes and saw more small towns and villages than most people will ever see on the mega ships. Additionally, we were able to get out and experience them on our own directly from the ship. The excursions we did participate in we found were well worth the money in savings of the time and energy to have tried doing them on our own. An upgrade to our cabin was available, so we took it, and were very happy to have done so. We had more space and spent more time in our cabin than if we had been in the one we originally booked. The food consisted of a buffet breakfast and lunch, both of which were extremely plentiful, varied, and tasty. Dinner was a scheduled, served meal, but substitutions were available if needed provided you requested ahead of time. Desserts were fabulous! Our Expedition Team was top notch - you couldn't have found two more personable, knowledgeable, informative young men than they were. Procedures on board ship were well laid out, practiced, and clear. We have been back less than a week, and I have already recommended Hurtigruten to friends who are considering a similar trip. I would definitely do this cruise again.

Cabin Review

We had originally reserved a three-bed room (for two people) assuming the extra bunk could be helpful. Arriving at the terminal, we found upgrades were available and inquired without really expecting to take it. However, we were offered the chance to see the upgrade and found the extra space in the new room would be beneficial to us, so took it even though the price was significant. We have not been at all sorry to have made that choice. The mini suite afforded us essentially the space of two rooms (a bedroom and a sitting area) with full closet, plenty of cupboard space, a sofa, chair and table, as well as a desk and counter space. Very glad to have been able to make the upgrade work.
