Cabin Review

Yacht Club Deluxe Suite

Cabin YC1

In size, amenities and appointments, MSC's Yacht Club cabin on Divina seems generally comparable to the competition (i.e. Norwegian Haven). When it comes to elegance of interior design, however, MSC is perhaps unrivaled. From the plush sensuality of the Art Deco illuminated headboard, to the practical comfort of the tuxedo style settee, the Yacht Club cabin is dramatically superior. A warm brown and mauve palette of rich, simulated walnut veneers, bold upholsteries and stucco-like textured walls embrace the senses in an opulence of luxury. Enormous and highly practical mirrors at the foot of the bed, outside the walk-in closet, and at the rear of the bathtub all conspire to lend the cabin an illusion of even grander proportions, brightness, and sensuality. The use of glass shelves, partitions and tabletops further levitate the seductive spaces. The balcony size and furnishings are typical of this category. Storage space is ample and well apportioned. There were only two faults worthy of mention. First, the quality of the cabinetry seemed wanting, as evidenced by obvious wear and tear - de-laminating edge banding separating from the corners and edges of the makeup table (which had been touched up with furniture markers), disintegrating particle board and loose joinery on some of the drawer fronts, and wood grain veneers not holding up too well to the rigors of heavy use. The second and only other fault worthy of mention was the ergonomics of the showerhead. While vertically adjustable, the showerhead only extended to a height which makes for a fairly uncomfortable shower for anyone much taller than about 5' 9" tall. It was also situated too close to the wall, forcing one to stand so far back into the narrowest end of the tub such that one's feet force the drain plug shut. That said, the water temperature and pressure are excellent. All things considered, MSC's Yacht Club cabin on Divina is perhaps the best accommodation I have ever booked. I highly recommend it.
