Let's start with the positives. The staff, from the agents ashore to the room stewards to the dining room staff were friendly and helpful. They were always smiling and ready to fill any need. Frequently they would anticipate need and ask to help. The guest service staff were always understaffed. i did not see a time when they were needed that a fairly long line was present. This ship was not very automated. There were no kiosks for checking balances on personal accounts. The art auction staff did not have the energy or personality I have experienced before from Park West staff. The entertainment was very energetic, but not as professional as they could be. The theater is small enough that the programs should be choreographed at a more intimate scale. Most of the music was too electronic throughout the ship, even in smaller venues when acoustic would work better. The security on board was rather overboard. Coming back onboard after the day on Norwegian's private island customers are subjected to full security, not friendly, not necessary. If the captain can's secure the island to make this a secure customer experience, then the captain needs to be replaced. Plus, we were told we needed to go ashore with our cruise card and a picture ID and we had to take our own towel from our room. Not exactly convenient for a beach day. The food, oh the food. Every time I sale Norwegian the food offerings seem to get cheaper and less complete. Norwegian needs to decide if the customer really matters any more. The meat entrees do seem to be a bit larger, but the variety is less broad than in the past. The lunch menu in the Crossings was the same on Monday and Wednesday. I think there were very few dessert choices because the same list was offered almost every night. The activities onboard were much diminished from our last Norwegian experience. The only excursion I booked did not deliver what was promised. We booked a tour of a rum factory, a cigar factory and an art gallery. Our first stop was a community center based in the Santeria religion. After a brief lecture we were treated to a demonstration of a dance for the religion. This was quite informative and well done. Our next stop was the rum factory, except the factory was closed. All we got to see was the sales room. I was surprised at the cost of the rum, very cheap and the cost of cigars, very expensive. A fifth of good rum was about $7.00, the cost of a Cohiba cigar was about $19.00. We had the same experience at the cigar factory, it was one man rolling cigars in the ales area. Both places did offer rum tasting and at the cigar factory they also offered Cuban coffee. After this we toured a larger portion of Havan and visited a revolutionary art exhibit in Miramar. The private island, besides the security issues mentioned earlier was nothing special, it was a beach with lots of lounge chairs and lots of people in a very small space. Disembarkation was efficient and controlled. From the time we left our room until we were off the ship was about 10 minutes. I found this cruise to be nothing special.

Cabin Review

Inside

Cabin IX

Extremely small, less than a foot on each side of the bed. There was a projection on the refrigerator side of the cabin that was dangerous when getting out of bed and trying to get into the room proper. The refrigerator had no shelves (taken out to accommodate the giant water bottles for sale). The bathroom was adequate. Really the room was fairly typical, but small.

Port Reviews

Miami

Staff at embarkation was efficient and smiling. They began boarding at 11:30, which was about a half hour before the published time. This was a nice perk. The ship was ready and the food was plentiful for lunch.

Great Stirrup Cay

You see one private island, you have seen them all. It was a small beach with lots if lounge chairs and passengers. Crowded. The food was picnic food, overcooked hamburgers hotdogs and some salads.
