I chose this cruise for our 40th anniversary. This was our first trip flying to the west coast as we live near Boston. May 17th.We left here at 5:30 am and arrived at HNL 1:30pm.
We spent three days at Waikiki, just enjoyed relaxing. There is much to do and a lot of free entertainment. We chose the Park Shore Hotel, near the Zoo, and ate breakfast everyday at Lulu's.
Our boarding time for the ship on May 20 was around 11:30 am. The attendant:'s working the port were courteous, but there was mass confusion as to where to stand on a very long line. Most people not happy with the disorganization. This I something the port needs to improve on.
Midship Balcony Cabin in a quiet location. Not too far from the elevators. Plenty of room for two people. If adding a third person this area would be a bit tight but could be done.
Don't take oversized luggage. We chose 28 inch rolling duffle bags. They fit very nicely in the closet and I think they could have fit under the bed as well. Duffle bags collapse. I got cheaper ones, and that is a great choice. Our luggage got fairly scrapped up between flying and the port.
People dressed casual nice for dinner. We dressed nicely for an optional formal night(no tux or fancy gown), but again what we chose fit in a duffle bag. A few travelers went really upscale for that night. Some people dressed casual ( beach theme-Hawaiian shirts) and had the photographer take beach themed photos. It is really up to you. Most of the time is spent in shorts and bathing suits.
Enjoyed the beach and walked everywhere in Waikiki .
Walk Kona. Many wonderful shops and the beach is right near the port.
We rented a car. The beaches were very rocky and some were too rough for swimming. Study the beaches before you go. Maybe a tour of the canyon area would have been a better choice?
