This was pretty much a last minute (o.k., a few weeks) decision as my husband, thinking he might feel a bit crowded on a ship for a week, needed a bit of persuading. It was our first ever cruise and I can honestly say we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was great, with excellent wines and beer included. We decided not to go for the drinks package as we thought we'd have to do some serious drinking to get our money's worth, and getting up in the mornings for the excursions might have been a problem!

We only took one extra excursion that wasn't included in the price, but there were many to choose from. The ones included in the price were mainly walking tours which were very good and, for us, sufficient.

One fly in the ointment was on the third day when we were told that the ship needed some repairs and although our trip to Passau was still on, we had to get the coach back to Linz where we would then board the ship. A bit of a hiccup but things happen.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Stateroom

Cabin E

Our cabin was on the lowest deck - what would be called in olden times, 'steerage' ;-), but don't let that put anybody off as we spent so little time there awake that it made no difference, and in any case it was excellent. Everything we could possibly need was there, and it was cleaned, tidied and the towels were changed twice a day. Little details impressed us: for example, on the second night I'd left my book by the side of the bed with just a piece of tissue paper to save the page I was reading. When I got back to our cabin, the young man who looked after us had exchanged the piece of paper with a proper 'Viking' bookmark. Such a small thing, but it indicated to us how well we were being taken care of.
