I can't remember what floor we were on, but it was the casino floor, and we were not made aware of this when booking our cabin. Our cabin was smokey all the time (worse in the evenings when the casino was full) and Carnival refused to find us another suitable cabin, even though we told them 2 people in our family has asthma, and one was highly allergic to smoke. Our entire family got ill from the smoke smell. The ship was small, old, and it was common to smell a diesel smell while sitting outside on the deck. The cabin was average, just like the other Carnival cabins we've been in, but our steward was terrible. He said they were short staffed, so there was lack of cleaning and service to our cabin. We're easy going, clean, and really only ask for clean towels and for the trash to be emptied, even that was a far stretch. I found myself searching for a towel cart to replenish our towel supply almost every day. We called ahead to ask about accommodation's for a dairy allergy and asked if we should bring our own dairy free milk, snacks, etc. and was told no, just talk to your maitre D and he would accommodate us. We did just that, and they said there were no dairy free options. My daughter, who was 9, is the one with the dairy allergy. We did the best we could and tried to make food selections to fit her needs, but it was very difficult because most of the food service staff didn't either understand what dairy free meant, or didn't know how the food was prepared and what ingredient was in it. Needless to say, we had a very sick child on our hands by day 3. We ate off the ship when possible. The food on this ship wasn't very good compared to some of our other Carnival cruises. Our experience on the Sunshine was negative, and I wouldn't sail on this particular ship again.
