I chose this cruise for the ports and was not disappointed. Unfortunately we missed one port because our ship was too big too safely leave another port. Though a disappointment, the safety of the ship and passengers is the most important thing.
The Regal Princess is a large, relatively new ship. Some of the ship's design I find frustrating. To access the dining rooms from our cabin required us to go to midship on our floor or another and then go down to the floors on which the dining rooms were located. It's a nuisance. The Piazza is very open with several floors surrounding it. Much of the entertainment occurred on the Piazza floor. That meant the dance floor was larger than usual but if you were dancing, three floors of people were watching. Also a couple of the other venues, such as the Crooners piano bar, were located beside the Piazza on higher floors so all the noise from the Piazza could be heard. We found the variety of performers better than the last Princess cruise we were on.
We had a balcony room that was spacious and bright. The staff were great. There could be more activities on at sea days. We enjoyed the trivia challenges and there were several but there weren't too many other things that appealed. We did attend the Backstage Tour. It was fabulous. We spent 1 1/2 hours talking to the theatre staff. We saw the sound and lighting booths, costume rooms, wings, the pit. It was the best tour we ever had on a cruise ship. The staff were there to answer all our questions.
The room was Bigger than other rooms we've had on cruise ships. There was plenty of room for hanging clothes and plenty of hangers. There was also enough drawers and shelves. I'd like the balconies eye to be bigger but it was adequate. On this cruise we did not use the balcony every day because the weather was often cool and wet.
We arrived a day earlier than the cruise and left the day after. The first day we took a canal tour. We used the metro and spent a lot of time trying to find places so after the cruise we decided to use the Hop on Hop off Buses. That worked well. If you have limited time this is a good way to see the tourist sights. You can get this pass with the canal tour.
Rostock is a picturesque town. We went to the information centre and got a town map. With that we did our own tour in 2-3 hours. I would recommend that if you are not going to Berlin.
