Living in Texas we decided to drive to the cruise port instead of flying somewhere for a change. That turned into a good decision. The ship's amenities are fantastic. After experiencing multiple dining venues, rock climbing, surfing, water slides, mini golf, ice skating rink and so many other activities one can board this ship and never get off in port taking in all of its entertainment features. Food and selection of dining experiences are excellent. The Windjammer buffet turned into our primary eating destination because the food quality was excellent and the selection was abundant. You would swear the staff working the dining area worked solely on tips (they're not) based on the amount of attention provided to each table. Superior dining care over most restaurants.
Two complaints arose during this trip. The first is Royal Caribbean's claim to having streaming services. I prepaid for two devices to be able to stream content. I brought along an Amazon FireStick and FireTV (brought both just in case one worked better over the other). Neither worked since the TVs are customized to not allow any alternative viewing source other than that provided by the ship. When I inquired at Guest Services about streaming they stated it was for YouTube on your phone/table/computer and services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime on your own devices. I streamed some shows the first night with a lot of buffering occurring but the remaining six days on the ship could stream absolutely nothing. The IT Department said it was due to the heavy clouds the 2nd and 3rd night. But beginning with the 4th night all was clear the rest of the cruise. It took six hours of on going attempts to send a one word email to a business associate. So not only is their "Fastest Internet on the Seas" streaming capabilities bad but plain internet use was extremely slow and at many times unable to send very short emails.
The second complaint was our phantom TV set in our cabin. It would turn on without touching the remote, often times in the night. Only way to shut it down was to unplug it. Also, complained the first night that the remote worked sometimes and other times not at all. A technician came in and test it. Of course it worked at that moment but not 10 minutes later. For four days it was back and forth on the TV with staff. They eventually replaced the TV on day 5 and it worked fine for the last couple of days on the ship. Not that we were obsessed with watching TV, but when our ability to stream shows never occurred we needed the TV for substitute entertainment.
The ship was retrofitted in 2016 so it had all of the latest amenities. The cabin was well laid out as far as storage nooks, drawers, closet, safe, etc. Very roomy compared to ships I have sailed on in the past. My overall cabin review is OUTSTANDING!
