We explored our departure city, Vancouver, BC, for a couple of days before boarding the ship. I highly recommend it if you can do it. Shannon Falls is incredible and free to see.

Embarkation was really smooth and didn't take much time, which was great. We were greeted with someone shoving a glass in our faces. Not knowing what was in the glass, I asked and the person looked at me like he was a deer in the headlights. Not a good sign.

The ship was clean but clearly aged and tired. The outside glass was dirty the whole time. Paint was peeling on the railing outside the balcony. The colors everywhere were brown and tan. Some yellow. Cosmos Lounge was brighter being a light blue. Our stateroom was brown with brown carpet. Drab and depressing. I thought if they'd have just changed the carpet to something less drab it would've brightened & cheered up the place. They had some sort of malfunction in the electrical department about halfway through the voyage. Backup generators took care of most of the electricity and although the ship stopped moving and we limped in to Icy Strait, you could barely tell there was a problem. Except that the elevators didn't work.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2B

Cabin 2B

Cabin was clean but the bathroom smelled bad even though it seemed clean. There was plenty of room for all of our stuff. The balcony was great and I'm glad we had one. The bed was really comfortable. Our steward, Gusty, was excellent at taking care of the room.

Vancouver

Vancouver is a beautiful place with lots to see. I highly recommend going up hwy 1 towards Whistler. It's a beautiful drive and it's well worth it to go as far as Shannon Falls in Squamish. It's free to go see and just a short walk right up to the falls.

Horseshoe Bay is a nice little spot to visit too. If you're not renting a car, there is the Skytrain that will take you all over Vancouver.

Icy Strait

We visited Icy Strait 6 years ago and they've improved it a lot. There's a ship dock now and several new buildings and restaurants. We took the nature walk through the woods and it was incredible. There were a few bald eagles hanging around which was exciting. The cannery was interesting to see as well. We ate at one of the restaurants and give the smoked salmon pizza two big thumbs up!
