Sailed RCL for 50th wedding anniversary. Booked through cruises.com. Everything leading up to departure went well. Boarding went well. Stateroom was well equipped and clean.
Almost immediately the crew began a relentless attempt to up sell. At every meal and other encounters with crew they were pushing this package or that. Galley tour, internet, photo, etc. I don't mind the offers but after a while it becomes annoying. The passage ways to the staterooms were always partially blocked by housekeeping carts. Even Walmart does not block the aisles this much. A fellow traveler required a motorized cart and had to continually run the obstacle course.
Meals were good and meal service was very good. Chops Grille was well worth the money. One observation is that with the automatic payment of tips the staff has less incentive to go out of their way to serve you. The entertainment was not the kind that older guests would enjoy or understand. Mostly lights, multimedia and loud unrecognizable music. The "We Will Rock You" was profane at times and geared mostly to those with alternative life styles. At departure I was sent back to customer service. Customer Service said that "portion" of my account settlement had been denied.Turns out RCL decided to charge two similar amounts that triggered a fraud denial by my card insurer. Had to get the card reinstated. When I asked them why they said it is just the way they do things. When I asked why they waited until I was leaving with my group they said that I should have been looking at my account status on the stateroom TV. Hard to do when you are waiting in the debarkation area.
Good location near front of ship.
