This was our 3rd RC cruise. Our embarkation was a breeze as we arrived later than normal - 2:30PM. We literally walked into the Cape Liberty terminal, completed registration, and then walked onto the ship - we really had the terminal to ourselves. We had 2 cabins on the 6th deck with both having an obstructed view (I would avoid deck 6 - only because of the obstructed view. You can see the ocean, but the life boats are 15 feet from the balcony and limit the view and photo taking). We went to our cabins first (had 2 cabins - wife, me, and youngest son in one cabin and oldest son and his girlfriend in the other). After dropping things in the room we headed to Windjammer, but it was closed, so we went to Sorrento's. We knew about Sorrento's from prior cruises and wasn't disappointed the entire cruise until the last night - they closed at 1:00 AM but closed at 3:00 AM prior nights.
Our cabin was very nice and clean, though after the sofa bed is opened in the evening, the room becomes very small. I don't know how 4 adults could stay in the same cabin. We had 3, and my wife was going stir crazy when getting ready for dinner and then bed later in the evening. Our stateroom attendant was awesome! The bed was too firm, and on the third day I mentioned it to the attendant, who added 2 duvets on top of the mattress and that made all the difference.
The food was pretty good. Windjammer is laid out nicely with multiple stations and bar areas. The ship has the new Coca-Cola machines for self serve if you have the soda package. Everyone liked them. Our dinner was "my time" but my wife had previously made reservations before sailing. There weren't many available times to book online, but it was definitely better to have a reservation as there were always long lines for those that didn't have a reservation. The dining room was on the 4th deck (American Icon and Silk). The ship had 2 formal nights. If you go to the Grande restaurant on the 3rd deck on formal night, you needed to dress in formal attire. The other restaurants on formal nights, you could dress in business casual attire. On port days, the dress code requirement was casual (includes dress shorts and don't need to have a collared shirt). The food quality was pretty good, though salty. We had 2 dinners at specialty restaurants provided by Costco, so we ate at Chops Grille and Jamie's - both had great food and atmosphere. We also had lunch at Johnny Rockets (need to pay extra for this). Costco also provided lunch for 4 at Johnny Rockets. The food was delicious, however the seating area was not being cleaned by the staff. There was always a long line to place your order. If we had to pay, we wouldn't have eaten there.
If possible, I would get a cabin above deck 6. Though we could see the ocean, the life boats really blocked the view.
Our stateroom attendant was awesome. Kept the room and bathroom organized, provided bath robes and extra towels.
We walked around town and ultimately found a firehouse. Son, girlfriend, and me are firefighters.
We have been to Bermuda several times and decided to just go to a beach near the cruise terminal. We took a cab to Somerset Long Bay Beach and were disappointed by the amount of broken glass from beer bottles all over the beach. After a short time, we packed up and went back to the ship.
