This was our third cruise on the Eclipse and it was very different to the previous two. The ship and it's occupants were much more sedate this time, more like a Cunard Ship, which suited us fine. No queues at the bars, lot's of armchairs available in and around the bar and entertainment areas. The cocktails weren't consistent around the different bars. The barman in the Ensembke bar really knew how to mix a Mai Tai, superb. Unfortunately the Mai Tai in other bars were completely different and not so good. My husband prefers a gin and tonic, these were mixed with tonic from large bottles, sometimes with flat or near flat tonic, not good at all. We chose Aqua class to experience something different but can't honestly say it was worth it. We used the Blu restaurant in the evening but the food was either very, very good or downright poor. I don't eat meat but the vegetarian options were very few and not exciting at all. Pasta with basically a tomato sauce, not good enough. I had to eat fish most nights which is not my preference. The puddings too I felt lacked imagination, ice cream, cream brûlée, low fat/sugar option and a couple of specials that weren't that special. The service though was excellent from all the staff, no faults there at all. Next time, if there is a next time, we'll go back to concierge class.
One fault with our cabin was the vibrations coming through the floor on many occasions. Even when the sea was completely calm we could feel a juddering. One night the cabin was jolting really badly and made it difficult to sleep. Maybe this cabin is above some machinery?
The shows we saw were of a very high standard. Drinks service in the theatre was very good, very different from our last cruise with Royal Carribean where waiters were a rare find, as was the wine I drink, they ran out every day! Not so on the Eclipse, they always had my preffered wine. All in all we enjoyed this cruise very much but one thing Celebrity need to get right is disembarkation at some ports. No matter what excuses they made, taking over three hours to get off at Greenock is not acceptable. In the end we gave up and stayed onboard. I know they had difficulties getting old and disabled people down the gangway, but surely they know this in advance. They said the tides caught them out, but tide tables are available months in advance. Two gangways would have cleared the ship in no time, why they never did this is a mystery.
Comfortable balcony cabin. Good space in shower room. Great shower and excellent storage. Very comfortable bed, good full size tv that functioned very easily to access channels, tours, dining, accounts etc etc. Terrible selection of real TVs available, mostly news and sports channels. Nice size balcony with lounger chairs, footstools and table.
Some vibration and heavy jolting during some of the cruise. Maybe the cabin is located above some machinery or something???
