We chose this particular cruise based on itinerary, level of expected service and perceived value. We took a limo from Sea-tac to the ship. Since we arrived so early, had the driver take us around the town on the way to the pier. We were one of the first group of passengers on the ship and she was very beautiful. We went directly to our cabin and dropped off our carry-ons and proceeded to explore the ship and grab a bite to eat. Found the smoking section at the rear of the ship near the Sky View pool. I guess people who smoke aren't really expected to cruise any more as the area is small and smokers can't even light up until after the ship is done taking on fuel (basically the whole time in Seattle). There wasn't a lot to do that first night. Sunday was a sea day, we had dinner that night in the Pinnacle Grill. Service was impeccable. Brought my own bottle of wine along for that particular night. Would be nice to know ahead of time what was on the menu in the main dining room as they had one of my favorite appetizers and entrees on the menu that night and never offered again during the cruise. Monday, docked in Juneau and we took the whale watch/Mendenhall Glacier tour from Juneau Tours and Whale Watch. The Glacier was magnificent as the photos I had seen previous don't do it justice. We saw numerous whales both during the watch up close and off the ship, especially as we approached Victoria. Afterwards, went for a little walk along the waterfront and visited the numerous shops. Saw the Red Dog, very crowded, of course there had to be 3 other cruise ships in port that day. That night was the pub crawl that started just as we were leaving Juneau. This was the most fun I have ever had on a cruise ship with stops at 4 different bars on board. Afternoon tea each day at 3pm was great. Best was after Sitka as we were just getting back on board, got changed and just the right amount of appetizers to hold me over till dinner. Happy hour was also really good. Every day at 4 pm at designated bars, discounted second drink and wonderful appetizers. Sometimes I think the appetizers were more delicious than the dinners. The cabin itself was laid out okay, just seemed kind of cramped because not used to cruising all that often. At least we had a veranda to sit on and enjoy the scenery, especially Glacier Bay. We saw bears and mountain goats. AND GLACIERS! It was just breathtaking. Sitka, we went to the raptor center. It was a place where they help eagles that were hurt in the wild. There were a couple of easy hiking trails, great scenery. Went back to town and had lunch at the Sitka Hotel before going back to the ship. Ketchikan, went to Totem Bight park. Very pretty, right along the ocean. Easy walk thru with gift shop that had a lot of locally make artifacts. Potlatch park was right next door. It's where they do a lot of totem restorations. Back to town where we walked down Creek St. and visited the shops. Lots of tourists in town, made it hard to get around. Victoria, didn't do any excursions, just walked along the waterfront and to Fisherman's Wharf. There were these really cute houseboats and there was a sign that gave info about them. Back to the ship for our last night on board. During the cruise, tried to check out the entertainment, but usually either didn't care for what was going on, or couldn't get a seat. BB King's looked and sounded great but couldn't get in. Main showroom didn't have anything that seemed interesting except on day we were in Juneau, did pub crawl instead. Did see the Beatles tribute show, was ok, very small audience. Got a seat at Billboard on Board one night, they were doing requests. A male and female singing/piano playing. He sang okay but she should be singing in an opera somewhere. HAL, if you are reading this, please replace her. Back in Seattle. Got up early, went to breakfast, came back to finish packing my carry-on and make sure we had all our belongings before getting ready to disembark, but hold everything! Our stateroom was a total shambles and the room stewards were remaking our room! With all of our stuff sill there and it was barely 8am. This was totally uncalled for and put a damper on our cruise vacation.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom
Cabin VD 7023
We arrived to a very clean and well laid out stateroom, although it seemed kind of cramped to me. Really nice big screen tv on the wall facing the bed. Decent variety of movies, small variety of tv shows. The news channels were terrible. Only used room service once, not really enjoyable dining in the cabin.
