we wanted to try one of the newer ships from NCL. Wasn't disappointed that we choose the Getaway! We loved the crew on this ship. Silas Cook our cruise director was the best!!! Always smiling and helpful. He kept the party going all day long and into the night. I dont know how he does it. Anyway he made the cruise more enjoyable. The food was ok. Had one issue with La Cucina with delivery of our food, they actually forgot about us, we walked out because we had a show to go to and couldn't wait any longer. They ended up by tracking us down and made up for it the following night. Service was quick and they even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. We loved the adult area only in the back of the ship. Great when cruisers were in port, we had the whole area to ourselves. During sail days did get very crowded. But was ok. Now lets talk about the bar service. I have no idea why these bartenders couldn't smile..The ones that worked in the adult area seemed like we were bothering them even though we gave them a dip for every drink. The other bars on the ship were hit or miss with decent bartenders. I dont know if they are over worked because of UBP but still it doesnt hurt to smile. Slowwww service too. Shows were really good, very surprised. Loved the comedy show and the dual pianos had to go to them two and three times during the week. What I didnt like about the ship was the casino It did not pay at all. Everyone that I spoke to about how they did say not good lost and that they knew noon who won. Thats a shame but I guess thats why they call it gambling. So would we sail on the Getaway, yes. Would we go in a AFT Balcony, No.
Cabin Review
Aft-Facing Balcony Stateroom
First time we were in an Aft balcony. Loved the size of the balcony but wasnt crazy how the cabin it self was swt up The bed was so close to the closet that every time you had to go to it you sat on the bed to open the drawers. Bathroom wasnt working properly for the first day. Was overflowing from the tank. all over They had to finally get a plumber to go in behind the wall and fix whatever was wrong with it late in the day. The room was kinda of musty smelling Im not sure if it was because there was an ongoing problem with the tank or what. Anyway everyday your balcony has to get rinsed down from the soot from the stacks. I didnt realize that was going on till one day we had to skip the rinse and theres was soot over the balcony and chairs. Dont leave your bathing suits to dry out out there or they are going to black. Cabin too was a further walk then I thought it was going to be from the elevator but thats ok. One more item, you feel the rocking back there little more then if you were midship especially if it is windy.
