The New York to Halifax (Canada) 7 night cruise offered by Princess line aboard their "Caribbean Princess" 3000 passenger ship, is a perfect trip for the first time cruiser to get a feel for the whole cruise experience. (Actually my third cruise)

We flew from Heathrow (with Virgin) prebooked the seats on line and checked in on line, and prebooked the transfer to the cruise terminal, this is pretty essential as its much further than the "10 min taxi drive" the Virgin booking person told us it was, had we had to get a taxi I would have been very unnerved as its a good forty minute trip from JFK to the Brooklyn dock, I was warned that the taxi drivers were not all dependable. Unfortunately you dont get any idea of what New Yorks like as you see very little and the big stuff (Manhattan), only the out line way off across the water.

We sailed at 5.30pm but by this time as we had been travelling all day we were tired and decided to retire so didn't get a good close look at the statue of liberty. Our cabin (State room) was a cheap one on the interior (Therefore no balcony) but was very luxurious with a good size double bed, air con or heating as desired, a clean fresh shower room with clean white towels. A huge triple size wardrobe, lots of shelves for clothes etc a free safe (one of the few free things), a dressing table, bedside cabinets, a hair dryer and flat screen TV with lots of channels with the lastest movies and other programs, including very useful information programs telling you what is happening each day, this was a real boon and the cruise directors morning show with his side kick Gladys Pugh (Sorry Sam) I mean Sam a charming Welsh girl (who didn't remind me of Gladys Pugh at all), was great, the cruise director works really hard and he made our cruise, although we never actually met him. You also get a fridge in the room although if you use the contents it goes on the bill, actually quite a lot goes on the bill so be prepared we spent $825 on our onboard account and that was without trying hard. We booked two shore trips and only had two alcoholic drinks, but we drank capochino coffee (extra) had fruit juice (extra), had a massage (extra), did ceramic painting (extra) and had to pay the compulsory $10.50 per person tips a day for service, yes that's right $10.50 per person per day so beware these things soon add up.

Cabin Review

Good size, clean with plenty of storage, air con and heating. Safe, hair dryer, fridge, double bed, TV spacious.
