Wanted to go down the Danube and visit bits of Eastern Europe to which we had not previously been to see. We visited Budapest, Hungary (night cruise to see the lights was very good), and Kalosca, Hungary for a horse show. Osijek, Croatia. Belgrade Serbia (looks more prosperous now) sailed through the Iron Gates Gorge. Arbanasi Silistra and Varna in Bulgaria (the most traditional and probably the poorest country). and Bucharest (much more prosperous and lively than suspected). The visits were mostly part of the cruise price and well organized and the crew dealt with problems well. The dining/bar staff were very good with an occasional grumpy or over officious one. Cabin kept immaculately clean. Drinks on board were at 'cruise prices' with a number of complex packages which could be added to the mealtime free beers and local wine. Beers only lager locally wine ranged from quite good to barely drinkable.

Breakfast was buffet food ok layout of the buffet poorly thought out. (A whole circuit was required to get standard bread, butter and jam) but not a major problem. Dinners were good and not overly large (thank goodness).

Entertainment pianist (Gianni) exceptional, local entertainment competent but of limited interest.

Cabin Review

Cabin Grand Balcony

OK, I accept River boats have small cabins but this one was poorly designed. The bathroom door was too close to the bed (about 25 cms) and the bathroom had nothing around the basin to stand anything on. An almost good balcony but on the port side so it spent a lot of the day looking over harbour facilities rather than a flowing grand river. this is the second most expensive class of cabin
