My husband and I just returned from a 10 day cruise to Alaska. This was our 5th cruise on the Grand Princess and yes, she is getting old, that being said the ship is only as good as her crew. We had a great crew. No complaints. Fabulous food in the Main Dining Room, actually some of the best we have experiences on over 35 cruises with a few different cruise lines. We had an attentive room steward and were served by all other staff on board with respect and in some cases affection.
I had an accident the second night of our cruise and broke a toe. Although we managed to set the toe and bandage it on our own we had to meet with security the next morning in the medical center to make a incident report. Pictures were taken of the offending piece of furniture even with my repeated assurances of not holding Princess responsible for my klutziness, I became on a first name basis with the female head of security! She was a sweetheart and greeted me throughout the rest of the cruise. I am disabled and needed help getting on and off of the ship but found that the ship crew were very helpful and helped me get from the scooter to chairs and back and forth. Tough to travel when you cannot walk more than a few steps, but Princess had someone available to help if my husband and I could not handle the situation.
We loved the new bed and slept wonderfully. My only criticism would be that there be a variation available on the room service menu. The menu is extremely boring.
We were on a waiting list for an handicapped cabin and it made my cruise much easier. Shower was a godsend and we had enough room to maneuver around.
