We booked this short cruise as it visited Dublin and Liverpool and gave us a taster of cruise and Maritime. We have cruised many times before with many main lines. Embarkation was reasonably smooth. Our cabins were not ready so we were directed to Raffle Bistros for lunch. Usually on cruises the food is a highlight, but not on this one. The same choice was on 3 islands, and consisted of runny stews, barely cooked sausages, and paper thin pieces of breaded fish. There was a poor selection of salads, vegetables and fruit, and a poor selection of desserts. This standard continued throughout our cruise. Evening meals in the Waldorf restaurant were a bit better, but portions were small. I sent back my salad each night as I requested no dressing, and the 2nd night I even had the wrong salad! On the first morning the 2 restaurants were closed due to a technical problem so the bistro was absolutely rammed. The cooked breakfast items were greasy and poor quality. The lifeboat drill was a shambles, and staff did not seem to know what they were doing, and it ended with a conga line to our lifeboat! The 2 shows had no sparkle and the singers and dancers seemed bored and ‘going through the motions’. The cruise was 2 hours late leaving Newport waters as tenders had to pick up passengers arriving late from connecting coaches. This, along with the bad weather, meant that we arrived in Dublin 3 hours late, which meant a shortened time ashore. The captain did lay on complimentary wine that evening at dinner to apologise for the delay and the morning restaurants closure. Our cabin was a good sized outside and was well appointed, but could have been cleaner. Unfortunately we had noisy neighbours who came back in the early hours each night arguing and swearing, which only stopped when we complained to reception. We were asked to be out of our cabin well before 7.00am, far earlier than other cruise lines. Luckily the 2 restaurants were open for a quick breakfast before our disembarkation time. Based on our experiences we would not consider cruising with this line again, despite good itineraries.

Cabin Review

Cabin
Cabin was a good size, but could have been cleaner, particularly in the bathroom and shower.
