Brilliance of the Seas Cruise Review by medontelord
Trip Details
- Sail Date: May 2017
- Destination: Western Mediterranean
We chose this cruise for the itinerary, in particular Venice.
Barcelona is a nice city and Familia Sagrada is especially impressive.
The ship is in quite nice condition especially given its age. The Centrum (what they call their main lobby) is quite impressive but too small with very difficult sitelines for the entertainment that is put on there. Disappointed there was no aerial show.
The cabin is your basic balcony cabin. Comfortable bed. Cupboard doors are poorly configured. Shame they 'cheaped' out with a shower curtain instead of a shower door. Also cut out the body lotions, substituted cheaper soap and shampoo and even dropped the chocolate on the pillow tradition.
We ate all our dinners in the main dining room - no surprises, all good. Hope they never stop offering fixed seating as getting to be good friends the same table mates each night is a big part of what we enjoy on a cruise.
The buffet restaurant has a series of stations which works well to minimize lines. Breakfast need more variety but lunches were good.
Evening entertainment in the main theatre was very good with a tremendous variety. The movie selection was weak with every move either subtitled in Spanish or dubbed in Spanish. TV was pathetic with the same shows on every day! Two "Big Bangs', two 'Mike & Molly's' etc and the same ones every day. Charging $11.99 for a pay-per-view was another example of cash grabs they have added. Also there is now a $7.95 charge for room service - even for just coffee in the morning!
The crew were especially friendly in every department - a big plus.
Disappointed that RCCL 'cheaped' out again on a number of ports and took secondary docking locations (or even tendering in the case of Zatar). For example in Kotor, Croatia we were charged 12 Euro's each for a shuttle that took us from the 'Industrial Zona' where our ship docked to drop us off in town next to a large MSC cruise ship. In Kotor, Montenegro, we had to tender while MSC was docked. We were stuck in Salerno as opposed to Napoli. Saving dollars at our expense with cheaper docking spots was not appreciated by regular cruise passengers.
Nice cruise, just disappointed by the nickel diming of RCCL

Obstructed view - the roof over the lifeboats kept you from looking straight down - no big deal so if you can save dollars with this room , take it.
