We took this cruise mainly because of its great itinerary and it lived up to our expectations. All the port visits were great: We arrived 2 days early in Barcelona and did the hop-on/off and saw all the main sites. In Marseilles we took a taxi and then hop-on/off. In Nice we joined with 2 other couples to rent a van and see Nice, Monte Carlo and Eze. In La Spezia we took a bus tour to Pisa. In Rome we pre-reserved an Italy Tours van and saw Rome and the Vatican with an excellent local guide at the Vatican. In Naples we again pre-reserved an Italy Tours van and saw Pompeii (with local expert guide),Sorrento and Positano along the Amalfi coast. Overall, all these excursions made this trip great although somewhat exhausting. We were on-shore touring 6-9 hours for 5 straight days and did not spend any time on the ship's upper decks until the last day.

Regarding the ship, this is our second trip on Freedom of the Seas. Last time (about 10 years ago) we probably thought this ship was great. Since then we took the Oasis class twice and they are definitely superior. It's hard to rate the ship's activities because there wasn't much time for it (last day of cruise was the only day at sea). Had a balcony cabin which was nice and roomy. Room service and dining service were great. The only negative I saw was on the last day, when many guests stood on line at the concierge area to clear their bills, there were only 2 service clerks available instead of 4-5. Ended up being on line for close to an hour. Embarkation and disembarkation were very quick.
