It was an Alaskan cruise voyage of the glaciers. But this captain wouldn't get close to the glaciers at all. Hubbard glacier he got no closer than 10-15 miles away and you could only see about 1/2 the glacier at a far distance. Glacier bay he only went as far as to see half the glacier. The Star is an older ship but most areas looked pretty good, although some areas showed its age. The food in the buffet on Lido deck was so so at best with breakfast being the best. The main dinning rooms seemed like every other day they had good choices and the other not so good. They do have salmon, chicken, Alfredo noddles on the every day menu with a hamburger replacing the steak. They have two dress up nights and lobster, beef wellington on the second night. The cruise staff did a good job with on board activities.
If 3 ships are in port plan on a 3 hour wait in long lines. they only use the normal staff for 1 ship or get there early like before 11am to only have an hour wait.
DO NOT take room B620 or a room next to it because you are under the room service kitchen and will hear things rolling and banging above you all night. On board customer service will not help. All they told us was tool bad-nothing we can do.
We set the AC on the coldest setting but the room never got too cool. Water was running from the ceiling one day and the plumber said he had to fix a leak on deck 8 and would come and fix our leak
If you take an Alaskan cruise from Vancouver, BC make sure that there aren't 3 cruise ships in port otherwise you will have a 3 hour wait in one long line after another. Get there early like 10-11 am and then you will have only an hour wait. We got there just before 2 and didn't get on board until after 5 because they only had the same staff that normally handles just 1 ship. Money means more to them than passengers.
most people take the train up the mountain. Small but lovely town.
The capital city of Alaska tours go to Mendenhall glacier, whale watching
a nice town for souvenirs.
a large city and easy to get around in
