It is no acccident that the MS Lofoten has a 50% approval rating from members. You will either love it or hate it. Lazydoxie's review is excellent summarizing the experience on this wonderful ship, and members should read it before booking. I was one of the passengers who loved it. It is a small ship with beautiful wood and brass furnishings and a crew that become familiary companions. The passengers choose this ship because it is the anti-cruise cruise ship- they love the closeness to sea and the roll of the waves. The entertainment is watching the loading and offloading of cargo, watching the fjords and wonderful conversations with new found friends. Food is delicious. THERE ARE NO STABILIZERS- your tolerance for this ship will depend on your tolerance for waves (i took dramamine) and trust in the crew and the ship which has likely gone through much rougher seas than you will encounter. I went in March, and the scenery was often obscured by the grey days- but I would willingly repeat the journey- no better crew and passengers can be found! I did not take any of the shore excursions, but those who did were pleased. The Hurtigruten route is meant to be a delivery route and point-to-point transportation. I recommend striking up conversations with some of the local travelers and learn more about their own experience. Food on board is delicious. Dinners are 3 course affairs, with china and napkin rings. Sit at a larger table to make new friends. There are two sittings, with coffee and tea taken in the lounge after dinner.

Unique and endearing experience!

Cabin Review

Cabin
small cabin with W/C. Basic cabin, but comfortable berth. I appreciated having the porthole and the w/c. This ship does have interior cabins with shared bathrooms, but those looked very, very small!
