Sail Date: Aug 2009

I booked this cruise on the phone with a Royal Caribbean travel planner after seeing a great price for an inside guarantee online. It was booked about 3 weeks before sailing, so kind of last minute. I tried to apply a future cruise certificate I have to this cruise, but was told that the I couldn't because the price was for new bookings only. I'm still a little confused by that, but so be it. When we got our room assignment, we saw we were in an obstructed ocean view on deck 8.

Embarkation: DH and I drove to port of Miami, it's only a 3 hour trip for us. We arrived at the port shortly before noon. A porter was available right away to take our luggage. Check in was quick and we were onboard within 20 minutes. After lunch in the Windjammer, we went to see our cabin. It was indeed an obstructed view, but the light from the window made the cabin feel a little more spacious. We met Paulo, our steward, who took good care of us the entire cruise. Spent the afternoon at the pool and we were on deck 12 for sail away.

Dining: We requested and were assigned a table for two in the MDR for late seating. Food was good, I had all my favorites. Our waiter, John, was very capable and sincerely wanted us to be happy with our dining experience. His assistant, Luis, kept our water and wine glasses filled and quickly responded to our needs. No complaints here. But..........we have noticed a decline in food quality and selection in the Windjammer, even since our last cruise on Majesty in May. One day, the lunch selections were a beef stew type of dish that was mostly fatty meat and gristle, and a turkey tetrazzini (sp) that was marginal. Breakfast at the WJ was the biggest disappointment this trip. The only potato choice was TATER TOTS and those pre-formed hash brown patties. We definitely saw the decline in food quality here. I understand about cost-cutting, but Tater Tots? Seriously, Royal Caribbean, I'm an adult, I don't "do" Tater Tots.

Cabin Review

small room, beds needed to be separated to have any walking room. Bathroom starting to show wear (towel hook and molding on door peeling off frame.)

Quiet location, not too far from elevator. Very obstructed view.
