Chosen for the intinerary, apart from a day trip to Dublin a few years ago we had not visited Ireland or Iceland before so did not really know what to expect.

Our first stop in Guernsey, where we had been many years before on a weeks holiday and also had to day trips from Jersey, was very pleasant. We were tendered in but this caused no problems. You could not have a warmer welcome from the Guernsey people as you alighted on the pier. Knowing St Peter's Port we wandered off on our own expedition to find the hotel we used to stay in, finding it it did indeed still exist ( got a brochure). The shopping in St Peters Port is good as it is mostly tax free in some of the shops, not M&S but Creaseys have pices less than UK prices. The Ship & Crown on the waterfront provided our pub lunch . A delicious fish finger sandwich and a pint of Herm Gold went down very well. Time to leave and although there was a queue for the tender, a local female singer/guitarist entertained us very well as we waited.

Cobh next. This is where the Titanic made it's final stop before heading over the Atlantic. There is a Titanic exhibit which we did not visit. Cobh itself is small and easily walkable although there is a hill to climb to St Colman's Cathedral, which is well worth a visit. A pint of Guinness in "Connie Doolans" followed. The barman entertained us in a way only the Irish can. The newspapers in the bar was either yesterdays or last weeks...news arrives but they don't seem concerned actually when it does. There was an entertianer (guitarist) in one of the sqauares. We decided to take the 25 minute trip by train to Cork, just round the bay ( 16 miles) €9.90 for a return trip. Extra trains had been put on for the ship's visit. An interesting ride and it is a 15 minute walk to the city centre from the station. Cork is a city, with the usual shops and maybe other things but after another pint of Guiness and an exceptional bowl of fish chowder in "Larry Tomkins" bar, by the river we decided to take the train back. We did however not that the "Franciscan Well Brewery" was just over the river. On another visit we would explore further.

Cabin Review

Concierge Class 2

Excellent ample storage, comfortable bed. Could do with more coathangers.

Port Reviews

Dublin

Had a wander on our own visiting St Patricks Cathedral, Grafton Street and Temple Bar

Cobh (Cork)

Explored Cobh including St Colman's Cathedral and had a pint of Guinness in "Connie Doolans" bar. Also took 25 minutes journey by train round the bay to Cork.

Coach trip though volcanic landscape with brunch included and a trip to a Geothermal Power Station.

Belfast

Excellent drive throught the Antrim countryside to a very interesting "wonder" with excellent walking trails.

St. Peter Port (Guernsey)

Warm welcome, picturesque town with lots of good shopping, intriguing alleyways and good places to eat. Also a castle to explore
