We had a wonderful experience with both Oceania as well as our alumni travel group. We spent two days in Athens before boarding the ship which we highly encourage others to do who have long flights. It helps to reset your internal clock before you get on the ship. We also spent an extra two days in Rome after disembarkation. Both the pre and post tours organized by our alumni group were great.

We loved the ship. The public areas were beautiful and the dining was great. We had breakfast in our room most mornings and it was always delivered on time and hot. The specialty restaurants were beautiful too. We particularly liked Toscana for the views and the Toscana quintet dessert (a couple bites of cannoli, crème brulee, tiramisu, panna cotta, and sherbet with fruit minestrone. Red Ginger had interesting food and Jacques had great food as well, serving the most delicious sea bass wrapped in puff pastry with a beurre blanc sauce that I have ever had. We ate in the Terrace a couple of times which we thought was very good – you could order steak and lobster off the grill every night! We also liked the Waves grill for lunch where we had a surf and turf sandwich twice which was excellent. The service was outstanding everywhere. The only slight irritation was that we had the wine with dinner beverage package and at Jacques in particular, the sommelier tried to upsell us into purchasing bottles of wine which were not included in the package. Having already spent $39.95 per person for wine at lunch and dinner, we were not interested in spending more and we felt it was a bit of a hard sell that was unnecessary.

We did not participate in any of the ships activities or entertainment. On nights when our dinner reservations were early, the show started too late, and when our dinner reservations were later we were finishing too late to go. Mostly, I would say we just didn’t make it a priority.

We were in a penthouse (PH3) cabin 10011. Our butler Ismail was wonderful as were our cabin attendants Swe Min and Tamara. Everything was kept spotless. The bed, which was identified as queen sized, was actually much larger in my opinion and was absolutely wonderful.

We enjoyed walking around the city and did the little train ride around the town which was interesting.
