We've taken the Mexican Riviera cruise in the past on other Carnival ships and we just wanted a low-key vacation minus the shore excursions. Overall, the cruise went well, the food was good but not exceptional, though the Nick and Nora specialty steakhouse was superb in every way.

One change we noted was that we were asked if we wanted our cabin serviced in the morning or evening. Never heard that before and the steward said they were cutting staff by assigning more cabins and once-daily service.

The ship added two revenue sources. One is the "super" level shore excursion, which doesn't seem much different from the regular options, other than the added cost. At dinner, in the regular dining room, they offer some of the steakhouse entrees for $20 rather than the regular $35 you pay in the steakhouse. The difference is that you don't get the same appetizers, sides or desserts or service. Frankly, the $15 difference is price is well worth it.
